police aim to catch more than just criminals as part of a new national initiative.

They are “capturing concerns” to tie in with the launch of the Policing Pledge.

Officers are asking householders in the Keighley district what is happening on their street and what issues concern them.

Neighbourhood policing team members are visiting thousands of residents across Airedale and North Bradford.

Among the areas being covered are Silsden, Braithwaite, Riddlesden, Cross Roads, Cullingworth, Wilsden and Denholme.

Neighbourhood policing teams (NPTs) are visiting residents in their areas to pilot the “Reassurance Mapping” scheme.

A police spokesman said the national Policing Pledge was launched on Monday in West Yorkshire.

He said: “The initiative is intended to ensure local policing is at the heart of all police forces.

“Police will sift through the results to draw up individual action plans for local communities.

“This will allow them to tackle issues and problems in the order in which residents want them tackled and make sure resources are focused where residents want to see them.”

There is also “capturing information” at public meetings, on regular community patrols and during information afternoons with groups such as older people.

Residents are also urged to influence policing on a day-to-day basis by visiting police stations or emailing neighbourhood teams at their websites.

Chief Supt Allan Doherty, divisional commander of Airedale and North Bradford police, said neighbourhood policing was “absolutely at the heart” of policing on his patch.

He said: “It also forms a key part of the Policing Pledge and we are determined to deliver this to its full extent in our division.

“We are also looking at ways to free up our NPTs to make sure officers and police community support officers spend as much time out in the community as possible.”

Mr Doherty said the results of the Reassurance Mapping would be put to good use He added: “I would encourage everyone whose door we knock on to take part and help us deliver the service they want.”
