The chairman of a well-established Keighley business has died following a short illness.

Peter Hewitt, who was 69, died on Tuesday of last week.

He had been chairman of the metal treatment company Keighley Laboratories.

A spokesman for the firm said: “Peter and his family have been associated with Keighley Laboratories since the mid 1980s, when the business was bought from the existing owners.

“During Peter’s time the business has grown and continues to do so. It currently employs about 70 people — mainly from the Keighley area — on the site in South Street which it has occupied since 1920. Before his death, both Peter and his family clearly expressed the wish that it remained in the Hewitt family and continued to be run by the existing management team.”

He is survived by his wife, Joan, and their three sons Daniel, Hadley and Guy.”

Mr Hewitt lived in Collingham, near Wetherby.

His funeral service will be held at 3pm today, at Collingham Church, with a private cremation to take place tomorrow.
