A 19-year-old Keighley man has become the newest recruit into The Yorkshire Regiment.

David Kerr, who enlisted at the Army Careers Information Office (ACIO) in Bradford, will now undertake a 26-week combat infantryman’s course at Catterick training centre.

The former South Craven School student said he had been inspired to join the army by his older brother, Danny, a driver in the Royal Logistic Corps.

David said: “I’ve seen what my brother has accomplished and how much he enjoys army life and I knew that it would be something that I’d enjoy too.

“Not only that but it will give me a career that I can really get my teeth into rather than just the daily grind of a nine-to-five job that wouldn’t really excite me.

“The army offers a really good chance of progressing in your career and a stable life with a lot of benefits, which to be getting paid for is great.”

Staff Sergeant Shamim Ahmed, of the ACIO Bradford, said: “I am sure David will experience every success in his career and I wish him the very best for the army life that awaits him.”
