Three local schools are taking part in a project to create resources designed to support the transition between primary and secondary school.

Greenhead and Holy Family, in Keighley, and Parkside, at Cullingworth, are among ten schools from across the district participating in the venture.

A panel of judges, made up of VIP guests and a group of year six students, will assess each school’s contribution and awards will be presented during a Voice IT Transition Festival, at the Abundant Life Centre, in Bradford, on Tuesday.

Resources which have been created — including booklets, games, DVDs, blogs and websites — will be premiered at the festival.

Christine Cutler, workforce development co-ordinator with Education Bradford, said: “This enterprising activity has helped the schools taking part to make a positive contribution and give a voice to their students on this important topic. Feedback so far is that the students are really enjoying the initiative and we are eagerly anticipating their contributions.”

During the festival students from each school will be invited on stage to explain how their resources would support transition and to show a video of how they created their work.

Prizes will be awarded in 11 categories and the overall winner will receive £1,000 to spend on a transition event in its locality.
