Plans for a £2 million restoration of a Cullingworth landfill site have been approved.
Bradford councillors this month gave the go-ahead for the remedial work at the former Manywells Quarry.
They also approved the construction of a new access road off adjacent Manywells Brow.
They agreed that quarry hollows in fields south of the landfill site can be filled with inert waste.
The landfill site is regarded as a health hazard and an eyesore and residents have demanded action in recent years.
Bradford Council recently won cash for the remedial work from the Government’s Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
The money, to be paid over the next two years, will fund the site’s restoration so it fits in with the local landscape.
The council’s regulatory and appeals committee approved a planning application from its own environment department.
Cullingworth Parish Council supported the restoration work but reported residents’ concerns about infilling of the quarry hollows.
Council officers will now look at the feasibility of adopting part of the access road, to help regulate how vehicles exit the site.
Manywells was used as a landfill site throughout the 1990s until the owner and operator went into receivership in 2001.
