Glusburn-born screenwriter Simon Beaufoy is penning a true story about a man who cut off his own arm.
The climber had to amputate part of his arm to free himself from a rock during an expedition in Utah.
Simon is writing the script for 127 Hours, a movie based on Aron Ralston’s ordeal. The film reunites Simon with his Slumdog Millionaire collaborator, director Danny Boyle.
The men each won Oscars for their work on the hit movie about an Indian urchin who won Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
The latest movie portrays Ralston’s struggle for survival over five days six years ago while climbing in Utah.
Ralston trapped his arm under a dislodged boulder and, believing he would die, recorded a last video message for his family.
He snapped the bones in his arm and amputated it with the blade and pliers in his multi-tool, then abseiled off a 70-foot ledge.
He was then found by a family and airlifted to hospital.
