Householders have been urged not to make life easy for thieves after seven house burglaries were reported in the Worth Valley last month .

The figure was published on the Worth Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team’s (NPT) website.

The latest update covers offences committed in Haworth, Oakworth, Oxenhope and Cross Roads. Five of the burglaries were reported in Oakworth, with a further two in Haworth.

In the same period in the Worth Valley, police also recorded three thefts of vehicles, three thefts from vehicles and ten instances of criminal damage.

Sgt Mark Wheeler, of the Worth Valley NPT, said while he was pleased with an overall reduction in crime in the district, he felt people could do more to deter offenders.

He said: “Unfortunately, we are still finding that not all residents are listening to our basic crime prevention advice.

“Of the five burglaries in Oakworth last month, three of these were due to unlocked and insecure doors.”

Sgt Wheeler and district council ward co-ordinator Noreen Akhtar staged a “police and community together” (PACT) meeting at Oxenhope Community Centre.

He added:| “The meeting is designed to give members of the public a chance to meet police officers and suggest local law and order priorities. Anyone is welcome to attend the next PACT meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, November 24.

“The exact time and location will be confirmed soon.”
