An aspiring Keighley politician has spent a day experiencing the role of Bradford Council’s highest-ranking officer.
Aidan Higgins shadowed council chief executive Tony Reeves as part of the annual 11 Million Takeover Day.
This gives children and young people across the country a chance to have a go at professional roles in a variety of organisations.
Aidan, 15, accompanied Mr Reeves on a typical busy day, which included visiting the Royds Community Centre, in Buttershaw, attending meetings with other top officers and directors and sitting in on a meeting with local MPs.
Councillor Michael Kelly, executive member for services to children and young people, said: “This was a wonderful opportunity for Aidan to have an insight into the important and interesting job of the chief exec.
“He was also able to give his views and ideas on topics discussed throughout the day and his input was welcomed.”
Aidan, a member of the Bradford and Keighley Youth Parliament for Keighley, found out about the day through the Keighley Connexions advice and support centre.
He said: “When I heard about this I jumped at the chance. It gave me a great opportunity to see how the council works and to take part in a day in the life of our chief executive. I am also interested in politics so the meeting with MPs was very interesting for me.”
