The way pupils interact with their teachers has taken a leap forward at Holy Family Catholic School, in Keighley, thanks to advances in technology.
Students have begun using “Activexpression” handsets to wirelessly transmit their work directly to their classroom’s interactive white board.
Each pupil is issued with a handset, which resembles a mobile phone.
Once they have mastered the keyboard they can write full sentences, as well as individual numbers and symbols.
If a teacher wants an assignment to be more challenging they can programme in a time limit, allowing students to clearly see the minutes and seconds counting down to their deadline.
“Once the answers are displayed on the interactive board, the teacher can highlight words, add corrections and even drop incorrect answers into a bin icon.
Head of English Maxine Jarrett said: “The system makes learning fun, engaging and non-threatening. “It only takes the pupils a few lessons to understand how to use the handsets.
“Sometimes when you ask a whole class a question you don’t get everyone’s hands going up but with this you get answers from everyone of them.”
