A 40-year-old Keighley man was attacked at a railway station.
He was set upon after getting off a train at Bingley.
British Transport Police this afternoon appealed for witnesses to the incident, which happened on Saturday November 14.
The victim had been travelling on the 10.56pm Leeds to Skipton service.
Investigating officer PC Gavin Lawrence said: “A group of around six men, believed to be in their early 20s, got on the train and began swearing and shouting abuse at the victim before following him off at Bingley station at around 11.15pm.
“The victim was then violently assaulted by one or more of the group, leaving him with cuts to his face, including a deep cut to his lip which required stitches.”
He added: “We are currently working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and ask anyone who saw anything to come forward.
“From our inquiries so far we believe that a number of passengers both on board the train and on the platform may have witnessed the attack when the train was at Bingley station.
“This was a violent assault that appears to have been completely unprovoked and I would urge anyone with any information that could assist our investigation to contact us.”
A 20-year-old man from Shipley has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail.
Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on free-phone 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
