Keighley’s Asda store was put firmly on the map — but in the wrong place!
The supermarket giant’s own website showed the outlet to be around the Scott Street car park.
It was only when the Keighley News contacted the company that the problem was rectified.
The mistake baffled would-be shoppers from Lancashire, who were unable to locate the superstore when they visited the town.
And their confusion was compounded because the supermarket’s address — Bingley Street — was only created when the new complex was built and doesn’t show on street maps.
Eventually, Brierfield resident Ray Hewson and his wife travelled on to Halifax to shop at the Asda there and alerted the KN to the debacle.
He said: “As we were visiting Keighley I decided to check beforehand if there was an Asda store — and there is indeed, at least according to Asda’s own website. It is located on Bingley Street, BD21 3ER.
“However, my Ordnance Survey street atlas offers no mention of a Bingley Street, in Keighley, although there is one in Bradford with a different postcode and no Asda store.
“On checking the map provided on the Asda website, the store appeared to be located in the region of Cavendish Street and North Street.”
An Asda spokesman said this week: “We would like to thank the customer for raising this issue and we apologise for any trouble caused.
The map has now been amended.”
