Karen Robinson of St Mark’s Utley writes

Are you going through or have you been through a difficult situation? Are you constantly depressed as a result?

David in Psalm 3, verse 3, makes a very strong declaration of faith in the middle of a difficult situation of his. He said: “But you, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the one who lifts up my head.”

All of us at some time go through difficulties. Some of us have come from a history of hurt and abuse and suffer with depression as a result.

In Psalm 3, verse 3, God was more than just David’s shield. God was the one who set David to live on a higher level. This was above his depression.

God lifted his head and showed him He was his glory in the trial he was facing. David had confidence in God. He knew that with God in his trial he would sustain him.

You may say there is nothing glorious about my circumstances.

There is nothing to make me want to lift my head up. This is true but with God in the circumstances with us he makes the difference.

It is so easy when we are going through bad things or when bad things have happened to us to walk with our heads down to the floor.

I would like to encourage you in a morning proclaim Psalm 3 verse 3 out loud in your circumstances.

Instead of wearing depression, see that God has bestowed a crown of honour on you. Let God lift up your head and let him once again fill you with renewed hope, renewed strength and renewed courage.
