A Christmas fair at flood-hit Lees Primary School could end up with record proceeds.
Organisers have not yet worked out the takings from last Saturday’s event.
But they say people flocked to support the school in its time of need.
Friends chairman Jenny Mercer said: “It was brilliant. It was busy all the time.
“I think we’re heading for a record year.”
The fair was held just five days after Lees School had to close due to flooding following a roof leak.
The flood, caused when lead was stolen, devastated the reception classroom and damaged the kitchen. The school reopened last Wednesday with reception children using the library.
Parents and staff rallied around to ensure the Christmas fair, organised by the Friends of Lees School (Folees), could go ahead. Mrs Mercer said the total proceeds would not be revealed until after the annual raffle had been held. The closing date for buying tickets has been put back due to the flooding, with winning tickets being pulled next Friday.
The fair had several popular attractions including a Secret Santa room, hook a duck, face painting and guess the weight of the cake. One pupil’s grandfather made £35 with a stall selling his second-hand books
