Visitors and residents in Haworth will be entering into the spirit of the traditional Christmas pantomime this weekend.

The annual panto’ celebrations — organised by Haworth Village Association — will feature parades up Main Street on Saturday and Sunday, at 3pm.

People are invited to take part by dressing up as their favourite pantomime character.

Prizes are on offer on both days for those judged to have the best outfits.

As well as the parades, the weekend will see a dozen volunteers wandering around the village in distinctive pantomime costumes.

Children can take part in a competition to identify all 12 of them.

The costumes have been loaned for the occasion by the Leeds-based Yorkshire Theatre Company.

The festivities will also include children’s rides, a jazz band, a fairground organ, choral performances, juggling, tombola, face painting and a clown. Santa and Mrs Santa will be putting in an appearance.

The Oakworth Village Morris Men will begin dancing at 1pm on Sunday, outside the Fleece Inn. They will continue performing at different locations in Main Street until 4.30pm.

Association spokesman Mike Hutchinson said there would be plenty of entertainment on offer.

He added the fun would take place in a particularly well-lit village this year, as Haworth has received extra funding for Christmas lights from Bradford Council.
