A Worth Valley school and volunteer emergency service were among the winners at an awards night in Bradford on Saturday.
Haworth Primary School and the Worth Valley Community First Responders won the Best School Community Project and Best Community Group categories respectively.
They were both entrants in the Bradford’s Best Awards — a joint Telegraph & Argus and Bradford Council initiative to recognise the district’s unsung heroes. There were 11 categories in total and a judging panel narrowed down nominations to a short-list of three in each section. Each group selected as a winner received a trophy and £1,000.
Haworth Primary was chosen for its emphasis on gardening, protecting the environment and producing its own, healthy food for pupils.
School gardening club founder, Steve Thorpe, said: “It was a really nice surprise – I hadn’t been expecting us to win.”
Head teacher Janet Parkinson said: “We were absolutely delighted that the work that staff, pupils and parents have done has been recognised.”
