A mother-of-one who had to have an emergency bowel operation after she was stabbed outside a Keighley pub has thanked staff at Airedale Hospital with a £1,400 cheque.
Sarah Wade, 44, and six other people were attacked by a knifeman outside The Livery Rooms Wetherspoon pub, in North Street, on August 20.
The Riddlesden community home carer was stabbed four times and was rushed to the Steeton hospital where she spent six hours in A&E and received emergency treatment to her abdomen, bowel and stomach.
In September she and seven of her friends shaved off their hair to raise money in tribute to the doctors and nurses in the A&E, high dependency and intensive care units, in recognition of the work they had done to save Sarah’s life. Receiving the cheque, ICU matron John Logue said: “We are very grateful for such a large amount of money and glad to have Sarah back and looking so well.”
Ms Wade said that one of the hardest challenges she faced was living without her 16-year-old autistic son, Stephen, whom she described as her ‘world’. He is currently living in residential care during her recovery.
Ms Wade said: “I just want to thank everyone who helped me to raise the money – Jan and Shelly Brooks, David Askham, Janine Hutchinson, Tara Shaw, Karen Elliott and Linda Mitchell.
“I also want to thank the hospital and paramedic staff. I cannot give back to them what they have done for me but this is a gesture.”
