Keighley supermarket shoppers will be able to pick up advice next week on how to get the best possible winter healthcare.

Local GP Dr Matt Curtis will be on hand to talk to customers in the town’s Asda store, from 1-6pm, on Tuesday. This is part of NHS Bradford and Airedale’s “Choose well” campaign, which kicked off last month.

It aims to boost public awareness about the range of health services available to people.

This is partly designed to cut down on the number of people who use accident and emergency departments and 999 services unnecessarily.

The campaign uses a colour-coded thermometer as its logo, which highlights responses to illness, ranging from self care or NHS Direct to contacting a GP or West Yorkshire Urgent Care Services.

Dr Curtis said: “It is really important that we get the message out to members of the public about the range of NHS services available locally to help them recover, should they be unfortunate to fall ill during the winter months. Choosing the right one will make sure they receive the best possible treatment, allowing emergency services to help those most in need.

“One of the main messages I will be giving is to fill up your medicine cabinet, so I will be helping people decide what to put in there.”

People visiting Asda on Tuesday will also have a chance to take part in a competition to win a “winter warmer” goodie bag, containing a hot water bottle, blanket and gloves.
