Youth workers are to adopt a higher profile in Oakworth leading to extra activities.

Among plans are a youth club, a multi-media minibus, computer training and environmental projects.

The expansion is being spearheaded by Oakworth Forward, which brings together several village groups.

Oakworth Forward marked its recent first birthday by forging greater links with Bradford Council’s youth service.

Oakworth Forward spokes-man Shaun O’Hare said activities for young people in Oakworth had been limited over the past few years.

But he said: “With limited resources the youth service has done a great job in engaging with young people.

“Now, with a little financial input, we can work together to raise the profile of the youth service in the village.

“We can trial a number of initiatives, such as a youth club and the use of an adapted multi-media minibus in the park.”

Also planned is information technology training with Oakworth Village Society and environmental projects with the Friends of Oakworth Park.

Oakworth Forward is a partnership with representation from many voluntary groups in the village.

Mr O’Hare said it was crucial that activities were able to continue long-term. They would be determined by the young people with support from Oakworth Forward.
