The youngest Oakbank School pupils have collected hundreds of items of food to help the needy this Christmas.

Keighley Salvation Army’s Captain Alison Gardner, along with town mayor Councillor Margaret Ward, received the tins.

The school council decided that pupils should support the Salvation Army this Christmas and asked year seven pupils to help.

The food will be distributed to local families.

Wendy Richardson, for the school, said: “The captain expressed her gratitude to staff and pupils for their good work and the tins they had collected.

“She then spent time talking about local issues the pupils felt affected them, asked for their feedback, listened and noted all the points raised.”

The year seven pupils followed the tin appeal with a book sale to raise further funds for the Salvation Army.

Cllr Ward has nominated the Salvation Army as one of her charities of the year.
