The snow has brought a new dimension to the work of Haworth firm Lawnorder.

The company spends most of its time looking after sports pitches and grounds maintenance for local schools.

But this year it decided to diversify by buying a snow plough and gritter for one of its tractors.

The idea proved successful after last Thursday night’s snowfall when Lawnorder was called out several times.

Staff were out at 5am on Friday to clear snow away from schools and businesses.

These included Riddlesden St Mary’s and Nessfield primary schools, Braithwaite School and Aldi supermarket.

David Burlison, owner of Lawnorder, said most of his company’s regular grounds maintenance work was seasonal.

He said: “We looked at the possibility of using some of our equipment to provide a winter programme.

“After talking to schools about the disruption the weather caused due to closure, we decided to modify the tractor to take a plough on the front and it also has a powered gritter.”

Mr Burlison said he generated interest from local businesses with car parks, delivery areas and approach roads that needed to be kept clear from ice and snow.

l Greenhead High School and Holy Family School, in Keighley – plus Oldfield Primary - were closed on Friday due to the snow.
