A Haworth woman carried out voluntary work in Kathmandu as part of an expedition to Mount Everest.

Rachael Holdsworth travelled as part of a 19-strong party from Leeds Metropolitan University.

The 24-day expedition followed nine months of mountain training in the UK and Germany.

Rachael attended Parkside School, in Cullingworth, and Craven College, in Skipton, before starting a physical education degree last year.

She began training with staff and fellow students last January for the Himalayan trip.

The team flew to Kathmandu in October, where they undertook voluntary work with The Self Help Group for Cerebral Palsy.

They set off on a 16-day trek to the Everest Base Camp, with Rachael and 14 others continuing to the summit of Kala Patthar, from where Everest is visible.

Rachael said: “It has been an amazing experience that I will never forget. Nepal is a remarkable place with spectacular scenery.”
