The organisers of a planned 3,854-mile charity cycle have a Keighley town centre base from where they can promote their venture.

Members of the Keighley & District Charities Group say they aim to be available in the Airedale Shopping Centre each Saturday until June 2010 to collect donations.

Managers of the centre have temporarily loaned an empty shop to the group.

It is using the former Poundland store, opposite Marks and Spencer, to help solicit donations for its “Keighley Koastal Cykle”, known as 3Ks for short.

Steve Brier, of Shann Park, and Brian Thorpe, from Stockbridge, will spend 17 days riding all the way around the coastal edges of England, Wales and Scotland.

The pair, who are both Keighley & District Charities Group members, will begin the journey from Keighley, on June 17. They aim to raise cash to support the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and Airedale NHS Trust’s stroke unit.

Harrogate-based graphic designer Katie Rogers has put together eye-catching posters advertising the ride, which are now on display in the empty shop’s front windows.

Mr Brier said he and his colleagues would be on hand in the Airedale Centre as many Saturdays as possible until June. But he added people could also give money by dropping into the Keighley Bus Station booking office.

He said: “There’s still an opportunity open for one member of the public to join us on the cycle ride. We’d ideally like it to be someone from Keighley. It would be a once in a lifetime experience for them.” He stressed the cycle ride was all about putting as much money as possible back into local good causes.

He said: “If we can’t support our own local community, who can we support?”
