You’re A Star awards have been given to a health worker and two Keighley-based services on the frontline of care.

John Fleming, healthcare support worker on Ward 24 at Airedale Hospital, was awarded the “valued colleague of the year” prize at an Oscars-style ceremony, at the National Media Museum.

At the event, more than 300 members of Bradford District Care Trust walked down the red carpet and had a chance to see themselves on the big screen.

Skipton Road Day Services, in Keighley, won the “working together” title after developing a volunteer training programme.

And an ante-natal service working to help expectant mothers with substance misuse problems in Keighley was awarded the “working with communities” trophy.

All those short-listed for awards had a chance to grab a share of the £10,000 prize money donated by Sovereign Health Care and were interviewed by a film crew before the night in a two-minute feature about their work.

Helen Cowley, substance misuse senior manager, said: “We were absolutely delighted to win this star award. To be recognised for working hard is lovely. The film was great and seeing service users up on the screen was really emotional.”
