A powerful regional business organisation has put its weight behind a campaign to boost Keighley's economy.

Business Link West Yorkshire is giving cash backing to the venture, which aims to encourage residents to support local shops and services.

The "We're Backing Keighley & District" campaign was launched by the Keighley News last month with the support of several groups, businesses and public bodies.

Business Link director Sue Cooke said: "We are keen to put our support behind this campaign because, as small businesses, retailers play a vital role in the local economy.

"Having a good range of shops helps to keep the town centre vibrant, making Keighley an attractive place in which to live and to visit."

She said Business Link offered an array of support services to existing small firms and retailers and those planning to start up.
