Costumes from the recent film adaptation of Jane Eyre are to go on display at the Bronte Parsonage Museum.

The costumes, to be displayed in the period rooms from today, will begin the museum’s latest contemporary arts season.

Artist Rebecca Chesney will exhibit new visual art work created during her year-long residency investigating the Brontes and the weather, in the exhibition Hope’s Whisper opening on July 22.

Rebecca will speak with writer and critic Alexandra Harris on the cultural significance of weather, on July 26.

On June 9, Bonnie Greer, Terry Eagleton and Caryl Phillips will discuss themes of race and slavery in Wuthering Heights, following a screening of the documentary A Regular Black, which explores the connections between the fictional Earnshaws in Wuthering Heights and the slave-owning families of Yorkshire.

The museum will host the third Bronte Festival of Women’s Writing from August 31 to September 2, with readings, talks, workshops and family events, including an appearance by novelist Sadie Jones.

Also visiting Haworth during the contemporary arts programme will be novelist Victoria Hislop (July 5) and Dickens scholar Michael Slater (June 8).

The Bronte Parsonage Museum’s contemporary arts programme is funded by Arts Council England and the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.
