The director of the Bronte Parsonage Museum is to leave after 14 years working at the Haworth attraction.
Andrew McCarthy will next month take up the position of operations director with Artworks Creative Communities in Bradford. Mr McCarthy was the parsonage’s education officer and audience development manager before becoming director in 2008. He developed the museum’s education programme and was responsible for several large-scale arts education projects in Haworth.
He initiated the museum’s contemporary arts programme which launched in 2006 and has since brought many well-established artists and writers to Haworth.
The Bronte Society, which runs the Parsonage, said that under Mr McCarthy’s leadership the museum’s collection had grown significantly, visitor numbers had increased, and over the past three years there had been operating surpluses, after a long period of financial instability.
Society chairman Sally McDonald said: “Andrew is passionate about improving access to the arts and whilst he will be sorely missed we are delighted to think we might look forward to potential collaborations between the Bronte Parsonage Museum and Artworks.”
