Bigger, better and bubblier – that’s the promise of a revamped version of a national show created by a Haworth-based group.

The Demon Barbers have won acclaim over the past couple of years for their song and dance spectacular Time Gentlemen Please!.

The show, which has toured UK theatres, combines morris and clog dancing with modern-day hip-hop and B-boy styles.

The Barbers and their leader Damien Barber recently landed a £120,000 Arts Council England grant to further develop the show.

The money, from the council’s Strategic Touring Fund, enabled the Barbers to rethink the show’s image and promotion.

Time Gentlemen Please!, which has now been renamed The Lock-in, is set in a pub where cast members show off their contrasting styles.

Damien said: “The new show will keep many of the elements of the original but will now be bigger, better and bubblier than ever.”

The grant also pays for educational projects to tie in with the show, a smaller version for street performances, and training of new artists and understudies.

The Lock-in will be at the Carriageworks, Leeds, on October 12, Burnley Mechanics on February 7 and Harrogate Theatre on February 18 and 19.
