Keighley & Craven Athletics Club celebrated one of their best-ever successes with seven medals in the County Road Racing Championships last weekend.
It was a real team effort as athletes aged from 11 to 48 made the podium.
The iconic Don Valley Stadium, which is scheduled to be demolished next month, hosted the 2013 Yorkshire road relays for both junior and senior running teams. Keighley & Craven started the weekend in fine in the under-13s, with Katie Atkinson, Lucy Fryers and Laura Knowles achieving silver in the girls team race and Elliot Brett, Ryan Watmough and Will Atkinson winning bronze in the boys.
Katie Atkinson also won bronze in the individual race.
Eleanor Robinson, who has had a fabulous track season, claimed third place in the under-15s to win Keighley & Craven’s fourth county medal of the day.
In the senior ladies relay, Zara Knappy finished the first of four 3km laps in a creditable fifth place before newcomers Claire Cooper and Amanda Sterling maintained that position.
That laid the platform for Helen Glover to run a perfectly-paced final lap, first overtaking Holmfirth AC and then Leeds City AC in the final kilometre to secure team bronze.
The county medals kept flowing on Sunday in the Yorkshire Veter-ans Road Relay Championships in Saltaire.
Keighley & Craven’s best-ever Vet 40 team of Nigel Bedell, Shaun Wilkinson, Dave Shaw and Chris Loftus flew around all four 5km laps to clinch gold.
Bobby Brown, Sam Wadsworth, Liam Spencer and Will Smith finished the medal haul by achieving silvers in the Vet 35 team category.
