Zara Knappy, a Year 12 student at Oakbank School, has been selected for the second time this year to represent England in the British and Irish Junior Mountain Running Home International Championships.
The 17-year-old from Oakworth will compete on Saturday in Aberfoyle, Scotland.
The A-Level pupil gained selection following a world trial in Keswick, where she came sixth, missing out on a Great Britain vest by failing to finish in the top three.
During the summer, Zara attended a three-day England and Wales training camp in Keswick, adding to her experience.
A member of Keighley & Craven Athletics Club, Zara is part of a four-strong under 20 junior women’s A team, and is hoping to help the squad repeat last year’s success when England won the overall trophy against their Welsh, Scott-ish and Irish counterparts.
Meanwhile, Cobbydaler Jonny Bradshaw was the first under-23 man home in fifth place in the British Open Fell Runners’ Association (BOFRA) Burnsall Classic Fell Race last Sunday, which was run in high winds and rain.
Knappy’s clubmate Rosie Hellawell was the first under-23 woman back in fourth place, just missing out on the medals.
James Lund ran well in finishing second in the under-14 boys’ race, while fellow Keighley & Craven runner Katie Atkinson won the girls’ race in some style.
