Keighley district youngsters were among the top awards at the Upper Airedale Junior Cricket Association’s annual presentation night.

An estimated 400 players, parents and guests packed into the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton where former Yorkshire leg spinner Mark Lawson was a special guest.

Much attention focused on the closely-guarded identity of the five cricketer of the year awards for 2013, now in their tenth year.

They were revealed as Owen West (Oakworth u-11), Max Berrisford (Silsden u-13), Harry McGowan (Bradley u-15), Poppy Saffery (Aire Valley Angels & Cononley) and Callum Lockett (Upper Wharfedale u-17).

For Owen, his award comes while still an under-ten but on the back of truly all-round prominence. Max captured the u-13 award by a comfortable margin and Harry finally emerged after years of promise.

As an under-11, Poppy burst on the scene in 2012 and has retained the award for a second successive season in which she amazingly finished in tenth place in the overall u-11 category.

The last award of the evening was to the under-17 cricketer of the year in the form of the inaugural Derek Hurren Memorial Trophy.

Joe Lumb captain Callum was the deserved winner and received the shiny new cup from Derek’s wife Jane Hurren.

There were also a host of age-group award-winners which were: Fielding – Corey Green (Oakworth u-11), Tom Mawer (Oxenhope u-13), Max Smith (Earby u-15) and Sammy Brear (Cowling).

Wicketkeepers – Billy Whiford (Cullingworth u-13), Toby Tidswell (Cullingworth u-13) and Elliot Hall (U Wharfedale u-13); Lewis Hopkinson (Oxenhope u-15); Nick Woodhead (Embsay u-17) and Tom Greenwood (Silsden u-17).

Bowlers – Imran Abbass (Gt Horton Church u-9), Owen West (Oakworth u-11), Waseem Qureshi (Cullingworth u-13), Tom Robinson (Embsay u-15) and Callum Lockett (Upper Wharfedale u-17.

Batsmen – Subhaan Ahmed (Oakworth u-9), Richard Starkey (Skipton u-11), Josh Yates (Earby u-13), Reece Webb-Foster (Oxenhope u-15), Ben Howell (Oakworth u-17).

Prizes were also given to players from the six UAJCA representative teams, with awards decided by the age-group team managers.

The u-10s team prizes were handed to Joel Oxford (Oakworth) for batting; the bowling to Luke Butterfield (Steeton) and the Merit Award to Bradley Powell (Oakworth).

The u-11s team which contested the Yorkshire Festival was rewarded with prizes for Joe Hall (Culling-worth), Matthew Corkin-dale (Oakworth) and Owen Narey (Bradford & Bingley).

The winners in the u-12s team were Louis Horsfield, Joseph Hall and Danny Murphy, a clean sweep from the Cullingworth club.

Brothers Adil and Aatif Modak, of Steeton, took batting and bowling awards for the under-13s, with Tom Mawer of Oxenhope picking up the Merit Award.

The u-15s celebrated awards to Jake Greenbank (Earby), Matthew Wear (Denholme) and George Heartfield (Cullingworth).

The u-17 recipients were Callum Lockett (Upper Wharfedale), James Lee (Oakworth) and Kyran Clarke (Upper Wharfedale).
