DEFENDING BOFRA champion Ted Mason romped to in the Kirkby-in-Furness Gala Fell Race for the fifth time.
He romped round the 4.3 mile course which had been softened by the previous night’s rain, to win in 31min 59sec.
His Wharfedale Harriers colleague Jack Smith was second in32:16 with Calder Valley’s Joe Washington almost three minutes further back in third place.
Jean Powell completed a senior double for Wharfedale when she won the ladies race for a second time in 46:14. Clayton-le-Moors’ Wendy Dodds (46:26) followed her home with Fionnuala Swann (Trawden Runners) taking third place in 46:57.
The under-17 boys race produced a victory for Blackburn Harriers’ Joshua Boyle (18:16). Second place went to Chris Richards (Helm Hill) in 18:3 with the Wharfedale Harrier Thomas Nelson finishing third in 19:24
Helm Hill made a cleansweep of the under-17 girls race through Imogen Burrow (20.55), Katherine Lawson (24.03), and Georgia Stevens (24:51).
The under-14 boys race was won by Eden Runners’ Sam Almond (14:59) with the Wharfedale Harriers youngster Logan Hargreaves-Madhas (15:16) coming second ahead of Broughton Runners’ Ben Edmondson (15:26).
The first under-14 girl to finish was Clayton-le-Moors Briony Holt (16:39). Second was Helm Hill’s Katie Thurlow (16:45) followed by Keighley and Craven’s Katie Atkinson (17:38).
Wharfedale Harriers produced the under-12 race winner, Alexander Thompson (8.44) and the runner-up Sam Smith (8.58) with Ilkley Harriers Lewis Carr (9:37) coming third.
The first girl across the finish line was Keighley and Craven’s Beth Roberts (10:08), followed by Wharfedale’s Charlotte Barrett (10:23) with Eden Runners’ Martha Richards, hot on her heels, one second later in third place.
The under-nine race involved two large laps of the field. Following a now established trend this season, the boys didn’t have it all their own way as the first three girls finishing before the third boy.
The race winner was Broughton Runners’ Alex Graham (2:43). The second boy in third place overall was Settle Harriers’ Rio Egner (2:49). The third boy in sixth place overall was Keighley and Craven’s Blake Mills (2:52).
The first girl, who finished second overall, was Beth Saunders of Hoad Hill Harriers (2:47). She finished ahead of Helm Hill’s Tara Allan (2:50) and Broughton Runners’ Jessica Edmondson (2:51)as they took fourth and fifth places overall.
