ALEX Towler has taken over as skipper at Keighley Cricket Club for the new season.
He replaces Richard Wear, who has joined Gomersal following a two-year spell at Lawkholme Lane.
Towler has come through the juniors at Keighley, having first played for the Under-11s over 20 years ago. The bowler has previously been a successful skipper of the Second XI, leading them to a thrilling Priestley Shield Final victory in 2012 and promotion in the same season.
Keighley have signed Australian recruit Ben Hastie from Melbourne club side Norwood, where he is captain.
Hastie is a hard-hitting top-order batsman who gives Keighley another spin option. He has been a stand-out performer in his league, playing for the representative side in the Ringwood District.
Hastie said: “I am absolutely over the moon about signing with Keighley. From all the reports it is a fantastic club with great people. I haven’t met anyone yet but I already feel a part of the club. I cannot wait to get over there, meet all the lads and get the season underway.”
Keighley have also signed experienced campaigners Rory Robinson and Matt Haines from Ribblesdale League side Earby, along with brothers Zahir Abbas and Mohammed Shahnawaz from Craven League neighbours Riddlesden. The club have confirmed that Owen Sargent and Jack Rogers are also joining for the new campaign.
