KEIGHLEY swimmer Sam Akers continues to impress, coming second in his first ever 3.8km open water event at the Coniston Aquasphere Epic Lake Swim.
Three City of Bradford Swimming Club members impressed on the day, Akers and Gabriel Medd from Keighley and Jakub Marszewski from Ilkley.
But it was Akers who stood out, and in that 3.8km open water event, he finished second out of 221 starters in 52 minutes and 57 seconds.
In the one-mile event, out of 356 starters, Akers came fifth overall (second male) in 22:31, with Medd not far behind in 14th (10th male) with 23:54.
Marszewski finished 41st overall (27th male) in 27:52.
Added to his two top-five finishes, Akers went on to win the 500m, as he was first out of the water from 105 starters, in 6:12.
