Eighteen-year-old Ben Lampkin has joined other members of his famous family on the trial riding scene.

Ben, a pupil at Ilkley Grammar School, lives at Addingham but was born at Silsden.

His father is Steve Lampkin and is related to Dougie, John, Harry and James Lampkin who are all second generation trials riders of the famous Silsden motorcycling family.

Ben started riding a few years ago and has now progressed to Clubman Novice riding grade. He rides mainly for the fun of trialling.

l In other local motor sport news, while Ben Hemingway snowboarded down the Swiss ski slopes on Sunday his elder brother Dan manoeuvred his way through 20 slippery sections at Dob Park to win the Ilkley Motor Club's annual New Year Trial and the AK Dawson Trophy.

Dan rode the entire Nick Pullan devised Ilkley course without a single penalty.

Somehow Pullan managed to get all his plans to fruition with a testing two-lap course in Dob Park and Brown's Wood that was ideal for 120 starters, a feat that is not easy in winter months by any means.

Travelling engineer Sam Ludgate finished second with Rosesdale visitor Ian Austermuhle in the third place after failing the sixth section. The Forestry Commission official was on a single mark up that failure.

Mirfield's John Chambers rode to win the Novice class in his first ride as an adult.

Otley's Andy McLoughlin snatched ninth place and the Inter award.

Fifth and Youth Class A winner Jonathan Richardson sharpened up for the British Youth Championships with a fine ride on his MRS Sherco leaving Mirfield rival Josh Maude to beat Bradford's Oliver Sharp.

West Leeds member and Drighlington rider Paul Kettlewell took the Clubman class from Eldwick refrigeration engineer Paul Jackson and Chris Greenwood.

Eighteen youths competed in three classes.

Richardson rode the hard course and won his class while Eadonsfield Class A rider Ben Butterworth scored points for Bradford Motor Club ahead of fellow member Oliver Ingham.

Boston Spa youngster Sam Yeadon managed to beat Burley schoolboy Edward Haley in Class B. Silsden's Danielle Whitham finished fifth in the same class.

Danielle is riding every trial possible to be ready for the national female trials championship.
