CITY of Bradford’s swimmers came home with a slew of medals from the prestigious Sheffield Snow Frills Meet, including one young Keighley prospect.
The meet was very aptly named as many swimmers and coaches had problems travelling in the wintry conditions, but that did not distract young Ciara O’Carroll.
The 12-year-old did Keighley extremely proud in the girls event, claiming silver in the 50m freestyle.
Otherwise, three of City’s swimmers gained top of the podium places.
Prolific medallist Sophia Gledhill was top of the podium in the girls 13/14yrs 100m butterfly, second in the 50m and 200m events along with the 200m backstroke, and third in the 200m individual medley and 100m backstroke.
National qualifiers Gina Warrior and Rebecca Dunn also claimed podium places.
Backstroke specialist Warrior finished in gold medal place in the 200m event and followed that up with silver medals in the 50m and 100m events. She also claimed third place in the 50m butterfly
Dunn, who specialises in breaststroke, finished top of the podium in the 200m event and silver in the 50m.
In the boys events, 12-year-old Harry Schmidt claimed one silver and two bronzes in the 50m butterfly and 50m and 100m backstroke respectively.
Finally, it was Fraser Buxton swimming in the 15 years and over events who rounded off an excellent weekend’s swimming for City with a silver in the 50m butterfly and a bronze in the 50m breaststroke.
The swimmers all train with Bradford Council’s Leisure Services Aquatic Competition Programme under the guidance of senior coach Andy Pearce and development coach Sarah Fisher.
