A Keighley derby match between Oakworth Juniors and Long Lee Juniors on Saturday was among the casulaties of the recent wet weather.

The match at Oakworth's ground, Bronte Playing Fields on Goose Cote Lane, was called off on Friday, said Long Lee secretary Kath Rickaby.

"This weather does create quite a backlog of fixtures, she said.

But she added: "We'd rather play on a nice pitch, as it can be a bit of a lottery when you play on a quagmire.

"It's one of those things where you have to grin and bear it."

Rickaby said a fixture backlog can cause divided loyalties amongst football players who are due to start playing cricket in the spring.

She said that her son, Lee, who plays football for the club, is one of those with split loyalties, as he also plays cricket for Airedale Cricket Club.

Rickaby and mid-table Long Lee are hoping for a respite so that they can replicate their cup form in an erractic league campaign.

"We're hoping for a bit of respite, by maybe...March," she joked.

Silsden AFC were denied a fixture by the weather on Saturday.
