CITY of Bradford’s swimmers had an incredibly successful Yorkshire Championships, coming home with 10 medals, 17 club records, five national qualification times and a plethora of final placings.
A Keighley youngster was one of the stars, with Ciara O'Carroll helping herself to a top-10 finish.
And in the same week as International Women's Day, it is only right that we laud the success of O'Carroll and her fellow young women.
Swimming in the 16 years age group, Gina Warrior claimed City’s highest placing with gold in the 50m backstroke in a time of 31.02.
This time was both a club record and a British Championship qualifying time.
She also claimed silver in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1.07.02, which was also a club record, bronze in the 200m event, again in a new club record time of 2.25.82, and seventh in the 200m individual medley.
Next in line was 14-year-old Sophia Gledhill, with silver in the 100m and 200m backstroke, and bronze in the 200m individual medley, and 50m and 100m butterfly.
Alex Dunn swam a well-paced race to get silver in the girls’ 15 years 50m breaststroke.
In the girls’ 17 years and over category, Rebecca Dunn claimed a fourth and two fifth places in times of 2.43.64, 1.16.91 and 35.38 respectively in the 200m, 100m and 50m breaststroke.
Her 100m time was a new club record and the 50m and 200m times were both club records and national qualifying times.
