Maine Road 2 Silsden 0

Silsden's trip to Maine Road was one of five of the ten scheduled games in the Vodkat League top tier that got the go-ahead in the icy blast that swept the north.

But there was no good news for the Cobbydalers, who were left wishing their game was one of the ones that fell by the wayside as the defeat ended their long unbeaten run.

The home side hit the bar in the first half but that period was mainly even on statistics as the sides slugged it out.

The visitors ended that first half well and enjoyed a good start to the second but then let the game slip away.

The Mancunian outfit broke the deadlock in the 66th minute through Lee Smith, who netted a shot on the turn that bisected a covering defender and keeper Martin Foulger.

The gloss was put on the win when Tom Kearney netted with a little less than six minutes remaining on the clock.

A corner was half-cleared but driven back into the danger area and the ball reached Kearney at the back post after two ricochets.

"They were two poor goals to give away defensively and it means our nine-game run has come to an end," said Silsden assistant manager Richard Chattoe.
