Silsden U-12s A 2 Wortley 2

(2-2 AET, Silsden won 3-2 on penalties)

Silsden won a dramatic penalty shoot-out thriller against Wortley in the quarter-finals of the West Riding County FA Under-12 Junior Shield on Sunday.

Conditions were not suited for football with a cold and very strong wind affecting both teams football.

Silsden raced ahead in the 15th minute after David Hunt played a beautifully weighted pass that Dylan Budge gleefully fired past the advancing Wortley keeper.

In a very tight game where most of the play was in midfield Ryan Narey and Josh Holt were like terriers, gnarling away at the opposition's midfield forcing them back.

The second half went very much the same way without either goalkeeper being troubled too much.

However Wortley found a way past Silsden keeper Jack Baker after a ball over the top was chased down by the Wortley striker, giving Baker no chance.

Once again there was late drama after Silsden went ahead with two minutes to go after good work down the left from Ben Dakin and Harry Marshall resulted in the ball being played through to Budge who hit the post then followed it up to make it 2-1.

Silsden were then hit by a sucker punch in the last minute when another long ball over the top found Worley's striker who hammered it home.

It was extra time for a third time running in this cup competition for Silsden, and no further goals scored.

The dreaded penalties were up next and it was Wortley to go first and they scored. Budge then scored to make it 1-1, while Wortley missed and then Ramsden scored to make it 2-1. Wortley missed again then King missed to keep it at 2-1.

With the tension mounting, Wortley scored to make it 2-2. Josh Brown gave Silsden a 3-2 lead but Wortley then missed their fifth penalty sending Silsden through to the semis.

Silsden's semi-final will be played at Woodlesford.
