Sunday, March 16, will be a great sporting day for the whole family as plans for the Keighley BIGK 10K and associated events continue to take shape.
Entries continue to come in for the BIGK 10K, which is in aid of Manorlands Hospice at Oxenhope.
Entries should be made as soon as possible. Entry forms and sponsorship forms can be found at www.sportkeighley.com. Forms and entry fees should be returned direct to Manorlands (address on the entry form) along with a 9 x 6" SAE.
Youngsters under 11 and those not up to the full 10K can also enter the BIGK Sport Relief Mile to be held at Victoria Park at 10am on the same day, or do one of the additional mile events, also at 10am, at Lund Park or Burgess Field, Highfield, both of which lie on the 10K route.
John Dennis, sportK co-ordinator, said: "Communities at all locations are doing a great job in pulling things together to make it a bumper morning of activity, and there will be a large number of volunteers out on the course helping the participants on their way."
The Pulse of West Yorkshire road show will be at Victoria Park and well known local sporting personality Roger Ingham MBE will be providing commentary and ice cream!
It is hoped that Keighley mascots "Cliff" and Freddie Cougar will have a head-to-head around the mile loop.
There is a model railway exhibition at Victoria Hall and all runners are entitled to a free swim at Keighley Leisure Centre after their efforts.
Keighley Cougars will have all sorts of activities going on as part of the lead-up to the afternoon's public launch of the Community Cougar Foundation, with students from Leeds Carnegie University lending a hand to provide tackling, passing and kicking sessions and a special Easter Egg hunt.
Minister for Sport Gerry Sutcliffe MP will be the guest of honour and will officially conduct the foundation's public launch during the afternoon's Cougars match versus Workington which kicks off at 3pm. Concessionary tickets for the match will be provided to all runners (and have also gone out to all schools in the area) and it is hoped that a bumper crowd will be able to cheer the Cougars on to victory.
Preceding the match, which is being sponsored by the Cougar Foundation, will be a series of activities including rugby skills, face painting, bouncy castles, tombolas, raffle, refreshments and Bradford's "biggest ever" aerobics session, on the Cougar Park pitch, in which everybody is welcome to take part.
Local schools will also be showing off banners that they have been designing in the build up to the event and the winner will be announced during the match.
In the week leading up to March 16 there will also be other related activities.
Oakbank School has organised Sport Relief events within the Bradford Primary Schools Cross Country event on March 12 and within the Keighley Secondary School Golf Open at Keighley Golf Club on March 14. There are also Open Sport Relief Mile events at Greenhead Athletics Track at 6pm on Tuesday, March 11, and Thursday, March 13.
Keighley & Craven AC is making all potential participants welcome at club nights at Greenhead on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6.30pm. See www.kcac.co.uk for more information.
