KEIGHLEY Cougars are one game away from immortality, as the League 1 champions produced a superb home performance on Sunday to beat third-placed North Wales Crusaders 50-18.
With the trophy presentation taking place after the game, the Keighley players could have been forgiven for being a little distracted.
But there is a real determination among this squad to go through the season unbeaten, and they seemed almost affronted when North Wales took the lead in the third minute, courtesy of a converted Jack Houghton try.
Tries from Charlie Graham and Jack Miller had Keighley in front midway through the first half, before the retiring James Feather marked his final home game with a score.
Graham's second try put Keighley 20-6 in front, and that was how it stayed until half-time, with Keenan Dyer-Dixon denied a debut try for the hosts, as his foot was just in touch as he grounded the ball.
Feather was sin-binned early in the second half, with North Wales taking advantage almost immediately through a Pat Ah Van score.
But two Keighley tries in three minutes after an hour killed the game off as a contest, with both Alix Stephenson and Dan Parker crossing the whitewash.
Miller was next over the line, converting his own score for good measure, before Jake Webster strolled in with eight minutes to go.
Cougars' final try was a beauty, as a brilliant curling kick from the retiring Scott Murrell was reeled in and touched down by Lewis Young.
North Wales had the final say, with Benn Hardcastle converting Rob Massam's last-gasp try, but nothing was going to spoil Keighley's day of celebration.
