It was an interesting week in the Keighley rugby world.

On Saturday Keighley RUFC pulled off an upset of sorts when they held league leaders Sandal scoreless.

Not so unusual you might think, but Sandal also held Keighley scoreless.

So you could say the two teams played a "pointless" game. Ha, ha... Sorry, bad joke.

In all actuality, securing a point for the 0-0 draw meant all the world to Keighley, who have been in a battle against relegation from Yorkshire Division One.

Their hard work paid off against Sandal, a team who had hammered them 66-3 earlier in the season.

They still need one point to ensure survival, which they could very well get in one of their final two games. Also the pressure is on the teams below them to win.

So I would be surprised if Keighley do not begin the 2008-2009 in Yorkshire One.

l In other local rugby news, Keighley Cougars just missed out on advancing to the next round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup when they lost 17-14 to French side Toulouse on Sunday.

The Cougars could have won, as they led 14-12 with 20 minutes to go. But instead of going forward and being more direct in their approach they started to play laterally and made some errors which they ultimately paid the price for.

Losing to one of the top teams in France (besides the Catalans Dragons) is nothing to be ashamed of but this is one that got away from the Cougars.

Hopefully they get themselves back on track with a win against Workington Town on Sunday before opening the league campaign at Hunslet on Good Friday.
