Keighley Shamrocks 1 Brighouse Town 1

Keighley Shamrocks failed to take full advantage of a game in which they dominated from start to finish but ended up with only one point and in doing so dropped to bottom spot in the West Riding County Amateur Premier League.

Shamrocks started off well and took control of the game early on, creating a host of chances only to be denied by some dogged defending and some superb saves from the visiting keeper.

Joe Brady did however break the deadlock on the half hour when he chased on to a Liam Walsh through ball and coolly slotted it past the advancing keeper to give the home side the lead.

Michael Parr could have doubled the score but he failed to convert Stuart White-head's slide rule pass and the home team had to settle for a slender lead at the break.

The second half was much the same with Jimmy Christian, Liam Bellamy and Matthew Wilson in fine form at the back - 17-year-old Jake Yaxley in the Shamrocks goal was rarely called upon for most of the second period.

A fine strike from John Spurr brought the best from the visiting keeper and to add to Shamrocks' frustration Brady had to be substituted due to a hamstring injury.

The torrential downpour didn't suppress the home side's grip on the game and they continued to hunt for the killer second goal but unfortunately it wouldn't come and with ten minutes to go a superb long range strike put the visitors level totally against the run of play.

Shamrocks went back on the attack but couldn't find the elusive winner and so they had to settle for a point, With bottom club Ovenden beating third from bottom Wibsey 4-0 they managed to leapfrog Shamrocks and put them rock bottom on goal difference although they do have a precious game in hand on both the clubs above them.

Tyresal also lost which makes the end of season run in Shamrocks' own hands and with the recent performances they have turned in, the club believe they can survive the drop.

This Saturday the first XI travel to Overthorpe whilst the second string entertain Denholme in the District Supplementary cup semi-final at Marley. Kick off is at 2pm.
