The Community Cougars Foundation held its public launch on Sunday hosting a wide range of activities at Cougar Park that were linked with the BigK 10K charity race in Keighley.

"I was very pleased with the outcome," said Matt Foster, director of the Community Cougars Foundation. "The weather just about held for us."

Several activities were organised prior to Cougars' final Northern Rail Cup match against Workington Town, which kicked off at 3pm.

But one of the more special moments of the day occurred at half-time when Foster, representing the foundation, was presented with a cheque for £225 by Terry and Ena Senior, of Keighley, who are both Cougar fans.

The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and asked for donations for the foundation in lieu of presents for their anniversary.

Foster was pleased with the couple's generosity.

"It was something that was unexpected but gratefully received," Foster said, adding: "It's nice to know there are people out there, like the Seniors, who can do this kind of thing."

The foundation also held a banner competition.

Ten primary schools or groups took part in the competition, including Long Lee, St Joseph's, Oxenhope, Haworth, Oakworth, Cowling, two from Guard House, Burley Oaks and the Cougar Cubs U-8s.

Long Lee Primary was the winner, with Haworth Primary being the runner-up. Guard House's entry was third.

Foster said hundreds of children took part in a variety of activities, including an inflatable skill zone, face painting, balloon give-aways and mascot Freddie Cougar giving away Cadbury Creme Egg.

Eight first team Cougars' players also were on hand to sign autographs and play pass the ball games with the children.

Foster said: "I was really pleased with the day. It created a good atmosphere for the game, which the Cougars won with a last-minute try!"

Foster said the club are hoping to put on similar events like this for future Cougars' games.

He also wanted to thank four Professional Events Solutions students from Leeds Metropolitan University who helped organise the day.
