ARFAN Dad just missed out on booking a place in the 2022 Ultimate Pool Players Championship Finals Weekend in November, losing out in the Group Six semis.
Dad's fellow Keighley potter Chris Melling had already made it through to Finals Weekend a few weeks ago, so there was even more incentive for him.
And Dad did a decent enough job, coming fourth in the group on Saturday, beating Oly Bale in a shootout to secure his spot in Sunday's semi-finals.
He went up against table-topper Rob Wharne and lost the first set 8-6, before regrouping to win the second 8-3.
That forced extra-time and a six-red shootout, with the player recording the quickest time going through to the final.
Dad went first and potted his half-a-dozen reds in 23.53 seconds, an undoubtedly quick time.
But Wharne went at lightning speed in response, his clearance in 17.87 seconds the second-fastest in Ultimate Pool history.
That put Wharne through to the final, which he lost to French ace Christophe Lambert.
That triumph puts Lambert into Finals Weekend alongside Melling, where they will be joined by six other players, with the final two spots yet to be decided.
