Three local boxers scored impressive wins away in Doncaster and Sheffield late last week.

Mohammad Ali of Eastburn Amateur Boxing Club boxed a rematch against John Gaskin of Doncaster on Friday.

In their previous encounter at Bradford City's Valley Parade stadium Gaskin took the decision and expected to do the same in front of his home crowd.

Ali, 11, had other ideas however and treated the South Yorkshire fans to a display of boxing skill and confidence which made him appear a class above his opponent. He won by a unanimous decision.

In the first round Ali met Gaskin head on with a solid left-right combination. Ali, the taller of the two, tried to keep southpaw Gaskin at range using his long jabs but was sometimes forced to mix it up on the inside.

In the second round, the frustrated Gaskin tried to lure Ali into a toe-to-toe brawl but Ali stuck to his boxing and unleashed a mass of straight punches to the head of Gaskin and at one point caught him with a sweet left hand which sent him to the canvas.

In the third round Ali came out full of confidence and began toying with Gaskin. He danced around the ring teasing Gaskin with faint jabs before unleashing a flurry of punches.

l Eastburn's Jonas Denby notched up a majority points win against N Brown at Parsons Cross in Sheffield last Thursday.

Denby showed true grit and determination against his much bigger opponent.

Denby refused to take any supporters with him even though he was competing against a boxer who was fighting in his own show.

Denby dominated the first round throwing solid one-two combinations into the face of his bigger opponent forcing him on to his back foot.

In the second round Brown came out hard and fast and caught Denby with two big shots and put him on to an eight count.

Denby retaliated by standing toe to toe with Brown and delivering some crushing body blows slowing Brown's attack down and allowing Denby to finish the round the stronger of the two.

The third round was a fantastic round for Denby who displayed some superb boxing skills. He moved around the ring and caught Brown with some great counter punches.

Eastburn boxing coach Naz Jalil said: "I am very proud of both boxers they have worked very hard in the gym over the past few weeks, both faced lads who were competing on their home shows so had brought a lot of supporters with them this can be very unnerving on its own."

l Majid Ayub, 19, of Keighley Amateur Boxing Club, notched up his fourth successive win of the season when he comprehensively outboxed Zach Regan of Cleckheaton over three rounds at Doncaster on Friday.

Ayub took the bout at 24 hours notice and showed the class which makes him one of the most exciting boxers currently on the local scene.

Keighley boxers will be competing at the Cedar Court Hotel Bradford on Friday.

Luke Simpson, Ryan Baird, Luke Farrell, Natan Brearley and Majid Ayub are all scheduled to make an appearance.
