The Keighley Cougars won at Blackpool on Sunday to set up a clash of undefeated teams when the locals host Oldham in two weeks' time.

After a less than convincing 34-26 victory against a Blackpool side that has not won in 46 games, Cougars' head coach Barry Eaton was happy to come away with a victory.

A deluge of rain on Saturday put paid to the second half of Silsden AFC's football clash at Cougar Park on Saturday as it badly affected the ground.

But Keighley general manager Helen Carter said Cougar Park looks set to be ready for Friday night's football Jeff Hall Cup final.

She said that although a massive backlog of fixtures and heavy rain have taken their toll, the ground at Cougar Park is drying well and some drainage work looks set to be done this week to make the pitch playable for the weekend.

Eaton said of Sunday's victory: "It was a tough game but the main thing was we got the win. Although we did well with the ball in hand the defence had too many one-on-one misses and they didn't come off the line well."

With three league wins under their belts against teams with a combined won one, lost eight record, the Cougars next games are against much sterner competition, Oldham (on April 13) and Doncaster (on April 25), both of whom are favourites for the National League Two title.

Eaton said: "These games will be a good measure of how much we need to improve."

Eaton is hoping that with this weekend off, it will give his squad a chance to heal from their injuries.

While Eaton himself (hamstring) and Chris Redfearn (knee) are not expected to return for the Oldham game, Greg Nicholson (flu), Dave Norcorss (family illness), Jon Presley (shoulder) and Sam Gardner could also be back in contention.

Eaton is also using the extra week off to do some one-on-one coaching with the players.

One selection dilemma Eaton could have is on the wing where Ryan Smith impressed in the absence of Gardner on Sunday.

Eaton said: "It certainly was his best performance in a Keighley shirt."

One other change made last Sunday looks set to carry on in the near future. Danny Jones took over goal-kicking duties from the struggling Richard Knight.

Eaton said: "Richard is an able goal kicker and has hit some good kicks but he's been inconsistent. Danny is an equally able kicker and will relieve some of the pressure on Richard's shoulders."
