Silsden 0 Glossop North End 1 (abandoned after 45 minutes)

The weather was a detriment to all of the weekend games but none more so than Silsden's Vodkat League Division One game at Cougar Park, which was abandoned at half-time following incessant rain.

Visitors Glossop North End were 1-0 up at the time but even that goal owed much to the surface. Silsden defender Shaun Airey slid in to try to cut out a dangerous low cross but inadvertently turned it past his own goalkeeper.

Both sides had been stung by Easter Monday defeats to lowly sides and it was the visitors who had most territory in the opening exchanges, Dave Young forcing Silsden's Martin Foulger to tip over the bar with an inswinging free-kick.

The other full back sent over an inviting cross but the Glossop forwards were slow to support the attack.

Silsden's Andy Holden sent over two deep crosses which were headed clear before the wing back cleared another dangerous effort from Trucca, who had broken down the right.

Bland blocked a shot from Baker and then denied Morris following a neat one-two with Young. Both sides tried to play a passing game but gradually this became increasingly difficult.

Silsden's Graham Holmes and Lee Reilly were tightly marked although the latter did manage to weave past three players before being halted.

Rhodes' break down the right was halted by a last-ditch tackle. The stalemate was eventually broken when Rick Bailey cut the ball back from the byline. Foulger couldn't reach the ball and when Airey slid in he could only direct the ball into his own net.

This Saturday the Cobbydalers entertain Formby and the following Wednesday they travel to Flixton.

Silsden manager Paul Schofield said: "We went to the changing rooms at half-time and about six or seven minutes later the referee knocked on the door and said he was calling it off.

"Some of their players were a bit upset but the Glossop manager and his staff knew it was the right thing to do. It was the only sensible call in my opinion. Their manager totally understood."

Schofield added: "The pitch is a real mess. We will need a good week to be sure of getting Saturday's fixture against Formby on."
