CITY of Bradford Swimming Club enjoyed a successful Upper Age Group Yorkshire Winter Championships.
They came home with medals, three national qualification times and a plethora of final placings on a brilliant weekend at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds.
A couple of young Keighley swimmers stood out at the event, with Robbie Ambler claiming two top-10 finishes.
And his fellow Keighley native Quinn Austin-Kelly must have been tired out after his jam-packed weekend.
Austin-Kelly managed a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke for his age group, while he finished in the top-10 in eight other events too.
Freddy Dean was City’s only gold medallist, his win coming in the 13 years 50m freestyle.
Dean was not satisfied with just one medal though, and he was also on the podium in the 50m and 100m backstroke, claiming silver in both.
He also won bronze in the 50m butterfly and then went on to register three further top-10 finishes.
Swimming in the 15 years age group, Gina Warrior claimed silver medal placings in both the 50m and 100m backstroke.
Jasmine Shay swam a well-paced race to finish second in the 13 years 50m butterfly in a time of 30.55 seconds.
Next in line was Sophia Gledhill, swimming as a 15-year-old.
She had a third-place finish in the 400m individual medley in a new national qualifying time of five minutes, 5.08 seconds.
She also gained qualification times in the 200m individual medley and 100m butterfly.
To top off her excellent weekend, she managed top-10 finishes in the 50m and 100m backstroke, as well as the 50m butterfly.
Alex Dunn claimed a bronze medal in her 50m freestyle age group, while she also ended up in the top-10 for the 50m breaststroke.
Other top ten finishes went to Harry Schmidt (3), Imogen Tiffany (1), Samantha Knowles (1) and Will Skiggs (1).
But that was not the only big competition for City of Bradford’s swimmers last month, as they also travelled to the Yorkshire Winter Championships, which were held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
Eleven-year-old Ben Artis was flying the flag for Keighley that weekend, and he had two top-10 finishes, which came in the 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly
It was 12-year-old Amy Hagyard who stole the limelight in South Yorkshire, as she finished on top of the podium in the 50m breaststroke, as well as coming second in the 100m event.
Laura Schmidt also made an impact for City of Bradford at Ponds Forge, as she claimed 10th place in the nine years 50m breaststroke in a time of 51.66 seconds.
All swimmers train on the Bradford Aquatics Competition programme under the guidance of coaches Andy Pearce and Sarah Fisher.
