Silsden’s play-off dream is slipping further and further away, with Saturday bringing a ghastly 3-0 defeat to second-bottom Goole.
The Cobbydalers looked a good bet for a top-five finish in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division a couple of months ago, but they have only won two of their last 10 league games to fall back into mid-table.
Yet a victory on Saturday would have taken them within five points off the play-offs.
Sadly that did not come to pass, despite a bright start from Silsden.
Jake Cassidy and Kayle Price both put early headers wide from Casey Stewarts crosses, before the former had an effort brilliantly kept out by Goole keeper Dylan Hough.
And the Cobbydalers were made to pay for those missed chances, as Liam Flanagan and Daniel Ward both scored for the hosts in the final 10 minutes of the first half.
Jacob Smith’s sin-binning just before the break only compounded a disastrous little spell from Silsden.
The Cobbydalers never fully recovered from those setbacks and instead it was a buoyant Goole who netted a late third goal courtesy of Luca Grant.
Silsden will be determined to get any play-off push back on track before it’s too late, and they have the opportunity to do so tomorrow night, when they travel to third-placed Bradford District rivals Thackley looking to claim a vital three points.
